Anthony Thompson won the Wallasey League’s Federation Merit on Monday night and now qualifies for the National Finals. After beating clubmate Matty Gilmore 21-16 in the semi final, “Buzz” took an early lead in the final against Mick Andrews from Sacred Heart, only to go 16-15 down, but he stormed back to take the title 21-19. Unfortunately both Dave Gilmore and Billy Atkinson lost out in earlier rounds. Billy losing to Owen Doyle and Dave going down against Colin Saville.
The Afternoon “A” team defeated champions Harrison Park at the Vics yesterday afternoon but could not quite do enough to pull back a 39 shot deficit from the away game. With seven winners and only 3 losers this was a good performance by Brian Ibbotson’s side. Elwyn Williams led the way with a good 21-11 and with comfortable wins for Billy Atkinson, Ian Cameron and Eddie Clayburn, the Vics ran out winners by 22 shots.
The Vics suffered defeat against all conquering Higher Tranmere last night in the Rose Bowl 2nd round. Despite wins by Colin Saville 21-14 and Trevor Rodgers 21-20 the Vics could not hold onto a 45 shot handicap. Thanks must go to chairman Dave Bosworth for stepping in at the last minute and he performed well against Paul Saville 12-21.
