Vics Birkenhead League side finish with a win at Lever “B”, Ian Sherbrooke takes Averages prize.

The Vics Birkenhead League team finished their League campaign on Friday in miserable wet conditions at Lever Club “B”. By completing a League double with an 8 shot victory the Vics will probably finish 4th in the League this season and coupled with a Dr.Dawson Victory Cup Final win over Tixall, it has been a successful season for the Vics. This Saturday (2nd September, 2-00pm at Cammell Laird) the Vics play Tixall “B” in the final of the Cartwright Cup but have to give 60 shots away to the handicap.
Ian Sherbrooke completed his League season with a 21-11 win at Lever Club to finish top of the Averages for the Vics Birkenhead League team with 13 wins from 18 games for a plus score of 87 and an average of 1.34. Billy Atkinson was 2nd in the averages this year.

Vics take Wallasey Association First Division Title for 6th consecutive year despite close call against Gladstone Squirrels.

The Vics Wallasey League side continued to dominate the 1st Division, by clinching their sixth Title win on the trot last night, with a more difficult match than usual against Gladstone Squirrels. The Vics had to share the winners and losers last night with 6 to either side. With Robby Franklin winning 21-06, and Ian and Neil Sherbrooke both winning 21-09, there seemed to be little danger for the Vics on the night and despite another 21-10 win for Anthony Thompson (still on top of the averages with 1 match left), 21-18 and 21-12 wins for John Devlin and Billy Atkinson were needed to ensure the Vics triumphed by 34 shots over game opponents. Once again Mally Johnson skippered the team in his own unique style with 18 players turning out over the season and he has to be congratulated on managing to keep his squad rotation system working throughout. Every Vics player in the squad finished with a plus average for the year. No doubt Mally will be after a seventh title next season to equal the record set by Marine Park between 1965 and 1971.

Vics on the brink of 6th consecutive Title.

The Vics Wallasey League side defeated Queens Royal “B” last night to virtually assure themselves of a 6th consecutive 1st Division Title. Only disastrous defeats by over 100 shots in their 2 remaining away games can stop the Vics. Anthony Thompson climbed back on top of the averages with an easy 21-05 win last night and Matty Gilmore posted a 21-08 winning card. The 2 remaining fixtures are Poulton away and Gladstone Squirrels away.
