Afternoon “A” team comfortably through to Shield 1st Round
The Vics afternoon “A” team easily defeated Bromborough Pool, in the preliminary round of the Centenary Shield, on a heavy Royden Hall green yesterday. Despite losing 3 of the first 5 blocks and conceding a 20 shot handicap to their opponents, the Vics had 3 crucial single figure winners in Billy Atkinson 21-02, Eddie Clayburn 21-04 and Ken Palin 21-08. Billy and Eddie going some way to redeeming themselves after heavy losses in the Five A Side Cup on Tuesday night. It was good to see Kenny Palin produce something like his best form in his first (of many we hope) victory for the Vics. Elwyn Williams 21-13 and “stand in” Peter Dodd 21-14, consolidated for the Vics in the middle four with comfortable wins and Bernie Owen 21-16 and Robby Franklin 21-17, both finding it a bit more difficult, completed the job to see the Vics through to victory by 38 shots in the end.
