The Vics Wallasey League side won their vital League match at Queens Royal last night, despite losing a League fixture on just total scores for the first time since May 2004. The Vics succumbed 217-223 but with 7 away winners to Queens Royal’s 5 home winners, the Vics won the match 10½ to 7 on points to take a useful 18 point lead at the top of the table with both sides having played 12 matches each. Jamie Fitzpatrick kept up his unbeaten West Kirby record with a good 21-14 victory that was matched by Anthony Thompson winning his 10th successive league match. Matty Gilmore, also unbeaten so far this season for Vics in the league, and Neil Sherbrooke both came through difficult games to post 21-17 victories and Billy Atkinson bowled really well (according to his Skipper) to win his game 21-18. Robby Hall, another Vics player unbeaten in the League this season and Robby Franklin both had to dig deep to record 21-19 wins and ensure that the Vics came through this difficult match on a poor playing surface with their lead at the top of the table intact. Skipper Mally Johnson was a mixed up Bunny at the end of the night, delighted that his side came out on top but angry at losing on scores to their closest rivals. Goodness knows how he will be able to get over this before the same two sides meet in the Harold Jones Cup Final on July 14th at Manor Road.
