Dave Leonard
Thursday 10th January
Dave only played with us at the Vics for one year but he was still an integral part of our club and had struck up many friendships within our membership during the course of last season. Dave found life at West Kirby Victoria much to his liking and wore his club shirt with pride, none more so than when he played in the Centenary Cup Final at Lever Club against Tixall. With the Final in the balance after a slow start from the Vics, Dave pulled back a big deficit against the experienced John Rogers to pull off probably the best and most important win of his bowling career with a 21-19 victory that set the Vics back on the road to eventual victory. Dave, as I mentioned below, will be sorely missed, especially by myself and Keith Etches, and with son Brian, still a member at our club, he will never be forgotten.

Tragic death of Dave Leonard
I am very sorry to have to report the tragic loss of Dave Leonard, who collapsed and died at home yesterday afternoon. Dave was the Vice Chairman of the Wallasey C.G.B.A. and played for West Kirby Victoria in the Birkenhead Afternoon League and Manor Road in The Wallasey and Birkenhead Evening Leagues. Dave had spent a short time in hospital just before Christmas but his sudden collapse yesterday was completely out of the blue and unexpected. Dave was a true blue Everton season ticket holder and he will be sorely missed on the local bowling scene. Our sympathies and prayers go to his wife Linda and two sons Graham and Brian at this terrible time in their lives and to his family friends. I will report on funeral arrangements as soon as I have any details.
