Peter Dodd was elected as a Life Member of the Wallasey Crown Green Bowling Association at their Annual General Meeting on Wednesday night. Peter was unanimously elected for his services to Wallasey Bowls as Secretary and Treasurer. Mally Johnson received the 1st Division Championship Trophy for the Vics and Billy Atkinson was presented with his British Parks Senior County Championship, Division Two, Player of the Year award.

Mally Johnson collects the Wallasey C.G.B.A. Division One Trophy from Mike Costall and Keith Etches, Chairman and President of the Association.

At last Thursday’s Annual General Meeting, well attended by 45 members, Stan Evans and Malcolm Johnson were both elected as Life Members of the Club. The voting for Lady members ended in 24 for and 26 against, with 2 abstentions. Out of 67 forms sent out this meant that 15 members did not bother to vote one way or the other which does seem strange to me but there we are. The proposal for a lesser subscription for members under 55 years of age was easily defeated as was the proposal to consider entering a team in the Bebington League, if the Wallasey League became a handicap competition. A Saturday scratch day for club competitions was accepted and the Officers of the club were re-elected en-bloc. Team Captains are to remain as last season and the new Management Committee will consist of the Officers, Team Captains and Robby Franklin, Andy Fergus, Eddie Dodd, John Brandon and Bill Tottey. The Tournament Committee consists of Don Ibbotson, Bill Spraggett and Eric Neal. A few moments silence were observed commemorating the sad loss of Laurie Blackburn during the season. The Treasurer reported a surplus of £291-68 for the year and proposed no increase in subscriptions for 2008 which means they remain at £17 per member. Two new members, Andy Dawson and Ian Hamilton, were accepted into the club on a unanimous vote and along with Harold Rutter and Ted Lawrence, who were both accepted at the October Management Committee meeting, we now have a total of 69 playing members.
Billy Atkinson won the British Parks Senior County Championship, Division Two, “Player of the Year” trophy, when he was selected as the winner at the British Parks Annual General Meeting in Northwich last Saturday. Billy won all three of his County matches for Wallasey during the season and because all three were crucial away victories, this was enough for him to win the prestigious award. Congratulations to Billy on an excellent season at County level and hopefully he will continue in the same form next year in Division One.

Because of the heavy work load I have this month with both the Wallasey C.G.B.A. and West Kirby Victoria Secretary jobs , I will not be posting any match reports until after the Charity Day on July 1st. Unfortunately with all the Individual competitions and Veterans and Senior County Matches to organise I do not have any spare time left this month. All the Match Results will be updated as normal during this time. I apologise for not keeping the match reports up to date as I know their are some people in Canada, New Zealand and the USA who read these reports.
The Vics Management Committee will meet on Monday 2nd April at the Club House starting at 4-00pm. All the handbooks etc will be available for the Team Captains at this meeting.
